Description
China Gold(Bambusa eutuldoides viridi-vittata)is a clumping bamboo that grows to roughly 8-10 mtrs in height, with a 2-3 metre round base. It features stunningly vibrant gold and green stripes along the culms and is often regarded as the most ornamental golden bamboo there is. China Gold grows with a very tight, full clump and masses of dense foliage. It looks best cleaned out from the base to show off its fantastic culms and foliage shape (see top photo) and feature it with a statue or ornament in front! (see bottom photo). China Gold is a fast growing bamboo, VERY drought hardy once established, and can achieve a privacy screen in under 2 years - provided you follow our Bamboo Planting Guide with soil preparation and care. It is a very hardy and drought tolerant bamboo once established and is fantastic for acreage.
Uses:China Gold is a fantastic ornamental or privacy screening bamboo, and can be maintained in a narrow garden bed simply by placing a root barrier down or cleaning out any unwanted culms. China Gold has very strong, thick walled bamboo poles. The shoots are also edible and great to throw into an asian style dish.

Planting:China Gold has a roughly 2-3m round circular clump when fully grown. For a dense screen, plant your China Gold 1.5m apart. If you are planting along a fence, come out a minimum of 1.5m to allow the natural clump size to grow. For a feature, allow a space of 3m x 3m maximum for it to fill naturally, or maintain it by trimming off new shoots that are expanding too far out. China Gold can grow in full sun to part shade. China Gold is extremely drought hardy once established.
